SV Schuessel

Being in this type of industry can be very challenging at times. For us, the best part is meeting all kinds of people from around the world.

SV Schuessel arrived at YPSA with Christine and Herbert on board this beautiful boat. All the way from New Zealand and on their way to St Helena Island. YPSA will be their home for a while.  Makes me wonder if there is space for one more!

16 Days of Activism: Wear Your White Ribbon!

Held every year from 25 November to 10 December, 16 Days of Activism is an international campaign that raises awareness about violence against women and children.

Yachtport SA is proud to be apart of this with our local Municipality as well as Langebaan Country Estate, TNPA and Fruitcorp.

What is the International 16 Days of Activism Campaign?

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender Violence campaign is a United Nations incentive. The event takes place annually between 25 November (International Day of No Violence against Women) and 10 December (International Human Rights Day).

The South African Government upholds the campaign but also includes issues relating to violence against children; therefore, South Africa holds the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children campaign annually.

This campaign focuses primarily on generating an increased awareness of the negative impact of violence on women and children.

'November Tip of the month'

Buckets

A skill that appears very simple but can cause real problems is collecting a bucket of sea water whilst under way.

The first step is to ensure the bucket is firmly tied to the boat with a long lanyard.

Then is should be swung forwards in an arc that will ensure it lands upside down, as the boat catches up with the bucket is should have filled, and be ready to be retrieved.

Whatever happens, the bucket must be removed from the water as is passes the person handling the painter. If it is not, they will be towed very rapidly down the deck, causing injury or at the least damaging the bucket.

Like most sailing skills this is one that is best practised when the boat is stationary or moving slowly first.

News for October'14

October started really slow, everyone still in hibernation. But as we near the end of October and the beginning of the silly season, we are really starting to get busy.

We had a lot of visiting boats during this time, and here are a few of them. Please remember to book your space in advance to avoid disappointment, we are filling up quickly.

We again had the privilege to have Eve with us for some tender love and care. After she was given a nice new coat of paint, she was ready for the summer.

Yachtport SA also found Nemo. All the why from Angola. When all the hard work was done, he also looked as good as new.
